 Swedish Massage

Picture
"Swedish massage uses five styles of long, flowing strokes to massage. The five basic strokes are effleurage (light touch), petrissage (kneading), tapotement (rhythmic tapping), compression, and vibration. The development of Swedish massage is credited to Per Henrik Ling though the Dutch practitioner Johan Georg Mezger adopted the French names to denote the basic strokes."

Stone Massage

Picture
Stone massage uses stones, heated or chilled, (or a combination of both) to massage the body. The hardness of the stones allows the therapist to address specific problem areas with more detailed work and/or deeper pressure. Basalt stones of various sizes, shapes and weights are used and heated in water. Marble stones are also used and kept at room temperature or slightly cooler.

Stone massages are available on Saturday's when you book an hour or hour and a half appointment times.

Trigger Point Massage

Picture
A trigger point is described as "A highly irritable localized spot of exquisite tenderness in a nodule in a palpable taught band of (skeletal) muscle." (Travell & Simon, 1993). These "spots" can be very painful and refer pain to other places in the body. This referred pain pattern gives the therapist a road map to follow to eliminate the trigger points and help the pain subside. The therapist may use their hands, spray and stretch techniques, post-isometric relaxation (PIR) techniques, positional release techniques or any combination of the above.

Pre-natal Massage

Picture
Massage during pregnancy is therapeutic bodywork which focuses on the special needs of the mother-to-be as her body goes through the dramatic changes of the childbirth experience. Massage therapy enhances the function of muscles and joints, improves circulation and general body tone, and relieves mental and physical fatigue.

Infant Massage

Picture
Infant massage enhances cognitive and physical development. Full term infants receiving massage therapy show more weight, greater length, less irritability and better sleep. It also reduces crying and improves an infant's ability to regulate their stress hormones. Mothers with postnatal depression that massage their infants show a reduction in their own depression and improve the quality of their social interactions with their infants.

Chair Massage

Picture
Tight muscles caused by stress and sitting behind a desk all day, especially at a work station that is not ergonomically designed, can impede blood and lymph flow through the body. The result is mental fogginess, decreased energy and susceptibility to repetitive stress injuries, like carpal tunnel syndrome. The answer? A chair massage! Corporations who are concerned with the wellness of their employees will make therapists available to their staff to help. Chair massage counters the circulatory problems inherent with office work—and provides an appreciated break for employees. Even 15 minutes of massage to the neck, back, arms and hands can increase circulation, returning energy levels and helping keep the body injury free.
